EDIT: I've reworded this stamp a bit. Don't worry, the message of salvation hasn't changed, I'm just trying to make this stamp as clear and easy to understand as possible.
1) Realize you are a sinner, and that this separates you from God, who is perfectly righteous.
"For all have sinned
and come short of the glory of God;"Romans 3:10-12
"as it is written, There is none righteous
, no, not one:
there is none that understandeth,
there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way,
they are together become unprofitable;
there is none that doeth good, no, not one."Habakkuk 1:12-13
"Art thou not from everlasting,
O Lord my God, mine Holy One?
we shall not die.
O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment;
and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction.Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil
and canst not look on iniquity:
wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously,
and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?"Psalm 145:17
"The Lord is righteous
in all his ways,
and holy in all his works."
2) Understand the penalty for sin (Hell).
Because God is 100% just and 100% righteous, He must
"He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment:
a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he
"For the wages of sin is death..."Amos 2:4
"Thus saith the Lord;
For three transgressions of Judah,
and for four,I will not turn away the punishment
because they have despised the law of the Lord,
and have not kept his commandments,
and their lies caused them to err,
after the which their fathers have walked:"All sin will be punished:
*either through Jesus' death on the cross
*or by you going to HellJohn 3:36
"He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life:
and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life;
but the wrath of God abideth on him."
How did Jesus' death on the cross pay for our sins?
Jesus, who never sinned once, died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice to pay for sin.
As the spotless lamb of God, He shed His perfect blood for our sins, and took on the Father's wrath for our sins.A) The physical, bloody death of Jesus was required for the price to be paid:Romans 5:10
"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son
much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."Ephesians 1:7
"[JESUS CHRIST], in whom we have redemption through his blood
the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;"Leviticus 17:11
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood:
and I [GOD] have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls:
for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul
"But he [JESUS CHRIST] was wounded for our transgressions
he was bruised for our iniquities:
the chastisement of our peace was upon him;
and with his stripes we are healed."B) Jesus took on God the Father's full wrath towards the sin that He held in His body:Isaiah 53:10
"Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief:
when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin..."John 18:11
"Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath:
which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink
"The same shall drink
of the wine of the wrath of God
, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation
..."1 Peter 2:24
"[Jesus Christ], who his own self bare our sins in his own body
on the tree..."
3) Believe that Jesus (God in the flesh ) died on the cross for your sins, was buried, and rose again the 3rd day.1 Corinthians 15:3-4
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received,
how that Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures;
and that he was buried
, and that he rose again
the third day according to the scriptures:"Romans 5:8
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that,
while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us
"For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly;
so shall the Son of man
be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth
"And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead
who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again
for our justification."
4) Put your faith in Jesus' sacrifice as the only thing that can pay for your sins.Romans 3:24-25
"Being justified freely by his grace
through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood
to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"Ephesians 2:8-9
"For by grace are ye saved through faith
; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast."Romans 5:9
"Much more then, being now justified by his blood
, we shall be saved from wrath through him."Romans 5:11
"And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom we have now received the atonement
5) Trust in Jesus alone to forgive & save you.John 14:6
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way
, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."Ephesians 1:12-13
"that we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ
in whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:
in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,"Romans 5:1
"Therefore being justified by faith
, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death;
but the gift
of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."Colossians 2:13
"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh,
hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven
you all trespasses;"
=======================================================================================Repentance, even though it isn't mentioned by name on this stamp, is part of salvation. Repentance is simply "a change of mind".
And that's clearly explained here in this stamp.
You have to change your mind about being a sinner, knowing the penalty of sin, believing what Jesus did for you, trusting in what He did to pay for your sins, and having faith in Him to forgive and save you.
Here's a stamp I made on repentance: STAMP
"God requires that in order to be saved one must truly repent
(Acts 17:30; 2 Peter 3:9). The word means "a change of mind
" and there must be that concerning God, sin and salvation. Men think that sin does not really separate them from God--they must change their mind about that. Men think that salvation is by works--they must change their mind about that. There is nothing more evident today than the absence of repentance among those who are professing to be converted."
More on repentance, from: av1611.com/freedom.html
You "must trust in [Jesus Christ] and Him alone [for salvation]. If [you] try to add anything (good works, baptism, church membership, etc.) to Christ's payment then [you are] saying to God that His Son's sacrificial death and blood shed on the cross was not sufficient to pay for [your] sin."
=======================================================================================One final point:
As stated in the stamp, we're saved when we believe
on, put our faith
in, and trust
Jesus and what He did to save us.
We are NOT saved by "being a good person", or "doing our best to serve God". Titus 3:5
"Not by works
of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us,
by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
Is it good to serve God and do good works?Yes!
But if you're trusting in your good actions to save you, you're going to go to hell.
You must trust solely
in Jesus Christ's righteousness, His blood and death on the cross, burial, and resurrection for salvation.
